Overview

The Data Governance Analyst (DGA) works closely with business and technical teams and is a major contributor to the successful implementation of the data goverance roadmap.  The person will partner closely with the Data Governance Office and strategic partners in both the business and IT to define and implement policies and standards which will guide consistent implementation of data governance programs throughout the firm.  This position will have an active role in determining critical data, establishing data definitions, implementing tools and new processes to control and measure data quality, and facilitating workflow improvements.  He/she will provide advice and counsel to management concerning the application of technical applications or tools to assist in the data governance effort to achieve strategic objectives. This position will track adherence and communicate accomplishments related to the data governance program.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the strategy and vision of the Enterprise Data Management to support the Data Governance program.
  • Drive Data Governance efforts and provide status updates on the program effectiveness at Western Asset.
  • Design and manage a process workflow to identify, classify, and define critical data elements that will mitigate risk.
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of standard data glossaries and data dictionaries for all key data sets.
  • Implement and manage tools and processes that will control the initial definition and future changes of data definitions.
  • Engage users across the organization; holding them accountable for outputs of the Meta data tools and processes.
  • Measure progress against data definition and quality performance targets, following up with business as necessary.
  • Maintain enterprise conceptual data mappings consistent with internal policies and standards.
  • Implement data lineage and controls working with project and business leaders to analyze the impact of future changes on critical data elements and mitigate any potential risks to data quality.
  • Interface with information technology and the Business Intelligence Competency Center (BICC) to help impact the data warehousing and delivery strategies needed to make key data available to users around the firm.
  • Establish issue management and escalation protocol for tracking and reporting data issues.

Qualifications

  • Detailed knowledge of data governance best practices, standard policies and processes including data structures, data modeling, and data warehousing strategies.
  • Proficiency in performing ad hoc data analysis and with presenting findings using Microsoft Excel, SQL or Access.
  • EDM software experience preferred (Collibra, Ab Initio, Infogix Data3Sixty, and Informatica).
  • Strong knowledge of financial services industry including familiarity with fixed income products.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis and make recommendations for the remediation of data quality issues.
  • Change leadership skills for communicating and promoting workflow changes.
  • Ability to work well within a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues quickly, and find solutions to solving them independently in a timely manner.
  • Inbuilt ability to multi-task, working on more than one issue simultaneously.


Academic Qualifications (minimum requirements):


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Managment Information Systems or related study (or equivalent work experience)
