Overview

It is the responsibility of the EDM Business Information Architect (BIA) to develop and institutionalize an information architecture discipline within Western Asset, providing greater awareness of the role data should play in the system design and delivery processes. The BIA will collaborate with business partners, application developers, solution design engineers, and technical architects to understand the implications of respective architectures to maximize the value of data across the organization.

 

He/she should be experienced in developing roadmaps, strategies, and solutions for core business processes across multiple domains. Conduct technical analysis using storyboards, user flows, process flows and site maps to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas in addition to developing prototypes for feasibility testing. Experience designing, developing, deploying and supporting large scale database applications, datamarts and data warehouses. Experience with multiple data, integration, and BI technologies: Oracle, SQL Server, Tableau and others.  The BIA should be capable of completing ad-hoc analysis and large scale projects with relative independence, including coordination and communication with other departments and key stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business, application, solution, and technical architects to understand the implications of respective architectures to maximize the value of information across the organization.
  • Oversee the design of information architecture solutions, ensuring that they align with business and IT strategies, maximize reuse and integrate well with existing solutions.
  • Perform a thought leadership role in the areas of enterprise data modeling, data access, data integration, data base design and implementation.
  • Participate in enterprise data management standards development for accountabilities, governance, metadata, data provisioning and data controls.
  • Develop business glossaries/data definitions and contribute to process design for data governance functions.
  • Perform taxonomy/data classification and data provisioning for authorized data sources.
  • Collaborate with data champions and leads to form personas and story maps, defining data requirements.
  • Gather, review and analyze project requirements in collaboration with business partners and IT teams.
  • Identify and solved complex cross functional problems through research and usability testing to improve and enhance the overall data experience.
  • Manage and coordinate all aspects of projects’ development life cycle from concepts to deliverables, including timelines, risk assessments and budgets.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and/or experience with Business Information Architecture and its application within the financial services industry.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, proactive, with the ability to perform in a fast-paced, high-pressure, team environment.
  • Expertise with relevant data modelling & diagram tools. TOGAF and other frameworks. Erwin etc.
  • Experience with fixed income securities and asset management industry preferred.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Access and SQL.
  • 5 or more years of related industry experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

Specific Technical Knowledge and Experience Required:

  • Strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle and experience integrating Data Architecture and Data Governance into that lifecycle to steer towards desirable outcomes.
  • Strong competency in data modeling and data design. This includes logical and physical modeling, partitioning strategies for large tables, and other database optimizations.
  • Experience managing data architecture documentation, and standards for data management, as well as training staff on principles of data architecture.
  • Experience with analyzing current state and conceiving desired future state, and identifying projects required to evolve.
  • Strong understanding of agile software development methodology.
  • Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio skills.

Specific Technical Knowledge and Experience Desired:

  • Capital Markets industry experience, especially in Asset Management
  • Database experience with MemSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase, Mongo DB, and Neo4J.
  • Experience with Tableau, Ab Initio ETL, Collibra, Liquibase, Apache Kafka, or similar software.

Academic Qualifications (minimum requirements):


Undergraduate degree in Finance or a relevant field or equivalent work experience; advanced degree preferred.

Progress towards or completion of CFA material is preferred.
