Reporting to the Global Head of Human Resources, the Compensation & Benefits leader will act as a close strategic partner to the Western Asset Management executive team to ensure that all compensation and benefit programs align with the strategic goals of the company and support the corporate culture by rewarding outstanding performance and attracting top talent. This person will collaborate with other HR colleagues to capitalize on areas of expertise and provide a coordinated approach to serve as a proactive, value-adding partner to the business, while demonstrating strong business acumen. 


  • Lead the overall compensation and benefits and functions to ensure programs are competitive and balanced while achieving desired behaviors which are closely aligned to Western Asset Management’s business strategies.
  • Partner with the Global Head of HR, COO, CEO and compensation team to lead and represent the Firm’s compensation philosophy and process.
  • Partner with all lines of business to lead annual compensation review process for all locations and functions.
  • Consult with global business leaders and other HR leaders to recommend, model and administer base salary and incentive compensation plans which meet business objectives and comply with local regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as subject matter expert in keeping abreast of competitive practices in relation to salary, incentive compensation (cash and deferred) and total compensation practices in the industry.
  • Lead efforts in assessing competitiveness of the company’s compensation and benefits programs to ensure that the organization can recruit and retain top talent through the participation in and the collection of external compensation and benefit survey data.
  • In conjunction with the Talent Acquisition function, support the offer process for all functions and locations.
  • Conduct ad-hoc studies, analyses and evaluations (e.g. job structure and descriptions) to meet specific business needs.
  • Provide leadership in aligning and developing performance-based compensation schemes and systems with the needs of the business.
  • Lead annual benefit renewal process, with support from local benefit brokers, HR and country leaders.
  • Work with internal and external resources to keep abreast of compliance and tax issues with respect to compensation.
  • Coordinate activities of vendors and consultants.


    • 10+ years of experience in leading compensation and benefit programs for global organizations. Experience with financial services organizations is a plus.
    • Proven ability to quickly grasp business objectives and strategies and how compensation and benefit programs support the attainment of those business goals.
    • Demonstrates intellectual curiosity and analytical skills in areas of high complexity and ambiguity.
    • Knowledgeable of current market trends and practices surrounding compensation and benefits throughout the world within the industry is ideal.
    • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills with a diverse group of colleagues and senior business leaders.
    • Hands-on leader and manager with a team-oriented, open communication style that is consistent with Western Asset Management’s highly collaborative culture.
    • Strong business acumen and the ability to influence and develop strong working relationships with several constituencies, including executives, line management and HR team members.
    • Extensive practical knowledge of a wide variety of compensation techniques, theories, programs and plans including cash compensation, merit programs, incentive/variable compensation and rewards and recognition, etc.
    • Knowledge of health and welfare/wellness and retirement plans.



    Additional Qualifications (minimum requirements):

    Undergraduate degree in business, human resource management, economics or related field.  MS or MBA degree is highly desirable.  Direct business experience with leading, developing and implementing compensation and benefit programs in a global organization.
