Overview

A Cloud Architect is an IT Professional who will focus on engineering innovative, strategic and long term solutions that enable Information Technology’s strategy for the movement of all IT assets to a Cloud-based platform. The Cloud Architect must possess the necessary technical and leadership experience, knowledge, and skills to establish themselves as domain experts for the Cloud within the organization. Additionally, he/she will provide direction, guidance and mentorship to staff engaged in the development and application of technology, architectures, frameworks, methodologies, patterns, and best practices.

 

The Cloud Architect is responsible for designing and implementing ‘right sized’ and ‘right sourced’ high quality solutions that enable product and service delivery in support of the Western Asset Management strategy, goals, and objectives.  He/she will serve the IT engineering community through the development and design of products that enable consistent, repeatable, efficient, and secure construction of solutions using Cloud based technologies.   The Cloud Architect is a “hands-on” position and this individual is expected to spend significant time in the development of these products. To accomplish this, this position will both lead and work collaboratively with technology stakeholders to establish and maintain technical assets within the enterprise technology portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the definition of technology standards for the use of the Cloud. Cloud Architects work with SMEs in various technologies to define standards, commonly at the release and version level to ensure consistency in test and production environments
  • Coordinate the creation and maintenance of technology roadmaps incorporating the life cycle of all relevant technology components
  • Play a key governance role for use of the Cloud on behalf of the Enterprise portfolio. The architect plays a key governance role by keeping an eye on technology selection in projects and will raise a flag for further investigation if developers and solution architects attempt to implement variations from standards.
  • Design and implement ‘right sized’ and ‘right sourced’ technical solutions in support of business and IT initiatives
  • Design and implement tooling and processes for the use of the Cloud that promote and enforce the practice of Continuous Delivery
  • Establish and maintain alignment of technical assets across domains (e.g., application, data, security, performance testing, etc.) within the enterprise portfolio
  • Develop and maintain a Cloud transition roadmap which meet the enterprise needs as identified during current state architecture analysis and the assessment of gaps and opportunities
  • Must be customer focused, SME on migrations, hands-on technical resource
  • Ensure these systems abide by various compliance and security policies
  • Manage systems and make updates as necessary
  • Maintain awareness and knowledge of the emerging trends in Cloud technology
  • Establish technology and architecture related policies, standards, and guidelines, along with providing oversight and support to engineering activities for solution delivery to a Cloud-based platform
  • Adapt quickly and respond to new problems and issues efficiently and effectively
  • Lead cultural change for cloud adoption
  • Develop and coordinate cloud architecture

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or other related program.  MBA preferred
  • Certification:  AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional
  • Dev Ops (CI/CD, automation tooling, Infrastructure as Code) experience
  • 3+ years architecting, implementing and supporting Cloud services
  • 5+ years of experience with Java technologies and architecting solutions using web technologies
  • 10+ years of overall experience to include a minimum of 5 years of enterprise, full life-cycle in architecture in the professional IT/Software Development services industry
  • Experience working in Agile/Lean development environment (SCRUM preferred)
  • Scrum Team Member attitude – willingness to support the Team to be successful in any area necessary
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring technical staff in the development and usage of technology architectures and solutions
