  • Overview

    A Cloud Infrastructure Architect is an IT Professional who will lead the development and operationalization of Next-Gen Infrastructure Layer Architecture, represents Public and Private Cloud. The role works in collaboration with the Chief Cloud Architect, Cloud Application Architect and other IT Domain architects supporting Information Technology’s strategy for the movement of IT assets to a Cloud-based platform. The Cloud Operations Architect must possess the necessary leadership and technical experience, knowledge, and skills to establish themselves as domain experts for the Cloud Enablement Team within the organization. Additionally, he/she will provide direction, guidance and mentorship to staff engaged in the development and application of technology, architectures, standards, principles, patterns, and best practices.


    The Cloud Infrastructure Architect is responsible for developing, promoting and executing a Next-Gen Infrastructure/ Cloud-IaaS Agenda that drives cost transparency for variable consumption of cloud services and show-back, improves service, and reduces usiness value in support of the Western Asset Management strategy, goals, and objectives.  He/she is responsible for working with internal and external stakeholders to ensure public and private cloud solutions are optimized for cost and functionality by recommending best-fit cloud solutions on the basis of business need and risk appetite. The Cloud Operations Architect is a “hands-on” position and this individual is expected to spend significant time in the development of these products. To accomplish this, this position will be responsible for identifying explicit and implicit customer needs and for ascertaining the cloud solution that best meets these needs; while performing evaluations of cloud technology standards, tools, products, and solutions, and working closely with business and technology stakeholders to make rational design decisions in light of known dependencies and trade-offs. 



    • Oversees all cloud deployments at Western Asset
    • Drive innovation on Cloud/ IaaS communities of practice
    • Lead the development and coordinate resources to define and maintain I & O specific Technical Reference Architectures and Architectural Principles, Patterns & Standards related to:
      • Compute, Network, Storage, Containers & Virtualization Infrastructures
      • Log Capture / Aggregation
      • Cloud, On-Premise, Hybrid
      • Collaboration & Unified Workplace Management
      • Infrastructure Automation
      • Network Management in collaboration with Networking SME
      • Disaster Recovery Services
    • Promote best practices, reuse & adherence to Infrastructure Architectural approach
    • Technology Lifecycle Market-Clock including Technical Debt Analyses for I & O
    • Develop Infrastructure change impact analysis, requirements & risk assessment for new and existing initiatives/ strategic themes/ value streams
    • I & O domain specific CMDB Repository development and maintenance
    • Support App Containerization & champion use of IaaS
    • Drive Infrastructure automation and rapid self-service provisioning
    • Participate in Agile/ DevOps Adoption for Infrastructure, with accountability for DevOps acceleration
    • Work with otherEnterprise Technical Architects and COP’s to shape decision making and approaches for Next-generation bi-modal IT
    • Develop Infrastructure Asset Inventory
    • Report on Infrastructure inputs for Business Functional Planning Cmmittee Project Portfolio Optimization while developing show-back methodologies
    • Deeply understand the enterprise architecture and its limitations, supporting Infrastructure needs on value streams/ projects
    • Continuously monitor emerging cloud technologies to better evaluate differentiated vendor offerings
    • Ensure systems abide by various compliance and security policies
    • Manage systems and make updates as necessary
    • Leads and participates in cloud provider and service evaluation and selection
    • Is an “evangelist for public cloud adoption” across the organization 


    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science other related program.
    • Certification:  AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional or equivalent. 
    • 3 + years of hands-on experience with cloud architectures, including the architectural design and deployment of public/private cloud solutions
    • Working knowledge of cloud management platforms
    • Familiarity with service design and pricing in the context of cloud-based solutioning
    • 10+ years of overall experience to include a minimum of 5 years of enterprise Infrastructure and Operations architecture design and development
    • CI/CD, automation tooling, Infrastructure as Code experience
    • Experience working in Agile/Lean development environment - SCRUM preferred
    • Demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring technical staff in the development and usage of technology architectures and experience with developing, promoting and executing cloud strategy
