  • Overview

    The successful candidate will have responsibility and oversight of the Legg Mason Subadvised Fund Administration team.  The Legg Mason Subadvised Fund Administration team is responsible for maintaining accurate accounting data for all of the Legg Mason and Western Asset sponsored registered mutual funds including funds domiciled in the United States and Ireland. The team is responsible for interacting closely with internal WA groups, various service providers of the funds such as the custodian, fund administrator, and transfer agent, and Legg Mason contacts with the objective to exercise quality control and facilitate oversight of the mutual funds. Daily responsibilities of the group include: monitoring and posting of subs/reds activity from transfer agents, monitoring exceptions reported by internal systems, investigating performance discrepancies, monitoring daily cash reconciliation items, and liaising with Legg Mason and internal teams on audit and other day to day inquiries.  On a monthly basis, the team oversees the closing of the Funds’ accounting records including final cash and position reconciliations, NAV reconciliations and any custom reporting. The successful candidate will be supervising a team of fund administrators.


    • Reports to the Manager of Fund Administration and has responsibility for overseeing the daily operation of the Legg Mason Subadvised Fund Administration team’s handling of fund accounting activities.
    • Responsible for the development and supervision of senior and staff administrators.
    • Ensures that all aspects of required training for all staff are completed on a timely basis.
    • Determines how best to organize the workload within the group and allocates work accordingly.
    • Continuously evaluates processes to streamline, gain efficiencies, and mitigate risk.
    • Works closely with portfolio management, compliance, and technology departments to ensure continuity of policy throughout the company.
    • Interfaces with the applicable contacts at Legg Mason for the various fund complexes to ensure that inquiries made of Western are acted upon in a timely basis.
    • Organizes resources to attend all service and project calls hosted by Legg Mason.
    • Chairs and leads monthly operational calls with the service providers.
    • Coordinates financial sub-certifications and audit requests for all funds issuing regular financial reports.
    • Responsible for coordinating special projects as determined by the Manager of Fund Administration. 


    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Good computer skills (knowledge of Microsoft Office).
    • Strong supervisor and training development skills.
    • 8+ years of related experience.
    • In-depth knowledge of fixed income instruments.
    • Understanding of investment accounting issues.


    Undergraduate degree in related field.  Experience may offset academic requirements.
