  • Overview

    The Global Account Transition (GAT) Specialist will be responsible for coordinating, documenting, and managing the startup/setup, transition, and termination processes of accounts. This includes coordinating transition related duties: Client onboarding, set up of new accounts, changing and closing accounts. GAT specialists work with Client Service Executives, the Cash Control Group, Fund Administration, Portfolio Management, Portfolio & compliance SUIT, GSO and Client Billings. This position will also facilitate negotiations of investment contracts and guidelines and assist Portfolio Managers, SUIT and Client Services staff in developing contract terms and amendments. The specialist will support the onboarding process by identifying and recommending approaches to solve problems, improve the process, and automate workflows. This may involve gathering business requirements in order to suggest and implement solutions. These solutions may include building macros, coding, requesting system enhancements, and developing tools to assist the business. This position reports to the Global Account Transition (GAT) Supervisor.


    • May act as primary interface with the client during the start-up phase of the relationship as well as ongoing changes at any time after the start-up phase.
    • Coordinate account openings, closings, transfers, and any other type of account transition with external and internal parties.
    • Project manage complex transitions through the transitions through the transitions lifecycle.
    • Arrange transition meetings inviting all relevant transition stakeholders across affected teams.
    • Manage Client Services expectations regarding transition milestones and timelines.
    • Build relationships with internal and external contacts in order to better understand and complete transition requirements.
    • Confirm critical information with custodian for account set up, conversion, and asset movements.
    • Identify client requests and escalate them, if necessary and appropriate, to the appropriate business units for discussion.
    • Complete transition checklist and ensure timely completion.
    • Utilize Business Process Management (BPM) application to facilitate transitions by completing account information in BPM in timely and accurate manner; guide progress of transition in BPM.
    • Coordinate asset transfers into and out of Mutual Fund and LLC accounts.
    • Assist team members and perform special ad hoc assignments as required.
    • Assist the Counterparty Onboarding Specialist as needed to ensure client accounts have adequate broker coverage for the mandates managed.
    • Assist the IS-GAT team on custodian set up duties as necessary.


    • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics.
    • Minimum 5+ years investment industry experience specific to transition management administration and operations.


    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong Microsoft Excel/Access computer skills and familiar with other Microsoft application.
    • Experience with security research using Bloomberg.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Knowledge of Fixed Income Securities.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to interact with senior members in both the client’s organization and managers in other departments at Western Asset.
    • Detail oriented and demonstrated analytical skills for identifying issues, performing research, and recommending action.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and individually.
    • Strong computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
