  • Overview

    • The Sovereign Research Analyst will be a key member of the Global Portfolios Team
    • He/she will be responsible for constructing a framework for sovereign analysis and performing sovereign research on the key and peripheral European sovereigns including Scandinavia and Switzerland
    • The role will be based in London

    Responsibilities

    • Construct a robust framework for sovereign macro analysis. Analyze macroeconomic and political developments and assess the creditworthiness of sovereign governments, with a focus on the key and peripheral European sovereigns including Scandinavia and Switzerland. Conduct historical and projected macroeconomic modelling, incorporating key metrics
    • Anticipate the evolution of the credit profile of the sovereign through deep knowledge of country fundamentals and analysis. Identify both internal and external sources and strengths and vulnerabilities
    • Responsible for assigning local currency and foreign currency for the sovereigns under coverage and investment recommendations for sovereign debt, currency and rates
    • Conduct macroeconomic forecasts as part of the analysis of sovereign creditworthiness
    • Produce and maintain country models
    • Identify economic, financial and political risk factors
    • Produce regular sovereign research reports
    • Participate in discussions with senior government officials, private sector representatives and rating agencies
    • Ability to perform analyses of quasi-sovereigns an advantage
    • Work closely with the existing global macro team, corporate credit analysts and portfolio managers across Western’s offices

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Undergraduate in economics and/or international relations, with strong competency in macroeconomics
    • 5-10 years of sovereign macro analysis is preferred. Expertise in sovereign macro analysis, with particular focus on macroeconomic, political, financial and social factors
    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
    • Familiarity with third-party data providers (e.g. Haver, Bloomberg)
    • Ability to present investment ideas effectively and clearly
    • Ability to prioritize time and tasks effectively and meet deadlines
    • Fluent written and spoken English
    • Aptitude for or experience in quantitative analysis
